Obituary for Maurice "Vic" Vincent Duvic, Sr.
Maurice "Vic" Vincent Duvic, Sr., died peacefully Thursday morning March 31st, at St. Catherine's Village in Madison, MS where he and his late wife have lived since March, 2006. A resident of Jackson, MS since 1960, Maurice was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 5, 1919 to Marguerite Connors and Francis Joseph Duvic, Sr. He attended St. Aloysius High School and Tulane University.
A decorated World War II hero (Silver Star and Purple Heart recipient), he flew combat missions as part of the North Africa Allied forces and was a flight instructor at Lake Charles until the end of the war. While serving in the Air Force Reserve, he was called back to active duty and served twenty-one months in the Korean War; ten months in Korea. After his retirement, he published a candid narrative about his service as a B26 pilot during the Second World War.
Vic met and married Margaret Louise Leland of Anniston, Alabama. They became the proud parents of eight children and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2015. In addition to his lifelong career in sales, he was an active member of St. Richard Catholic Church, a volunteer at Lighthouse for the Blind and a frequent contributor to "Ask Jack Sunn". He was a founding member and president of the Jackson Audubon Society and editor of their newsletter. Vic was an avid birder and traveled the world with his wife birdwatching.
Vic was predeceased by his beloved wife; his parents; his brother, Francis Joseph Duvic, Jr. (Mildred), his sister, Yvonne Duvic Finke (Walter) and his grandson, Christian Alexander Niven. He is survived by his children: Cathy Beshel (Al,Jr.), Maurice Jr., David (Deborah), Martin (Lisse), Denise (Troy Reitan), Lynn Flynn (Mike), Carol Niven, Phillip (Christi); his grandchildren: Cary Beshel (Andrea), Lauren Campbell (Brian, Jr.), Jessica Jones (Phillip), Erica Duvic (Megan Potter), Hannah Groan (Derrek), Hunter Duvic, Rachel Sharp, Stacey Duvic, David M. Duvic (Rebekah), Eric Duvic, Charlotte Flynn, Michael Flynn, Leland Flynn and Alex Niven. Additional survivors include thirteen great grand-children; three great great grand-children; niece, Marilyn Finke Winston; nephew, Robert Finke; and numerous cousins.
