Mary Minor “Tid” Bush Fargason died peacefully on September 21, 2022 with family at her side.
Born in Richmond, VA on October 22, 1933, she grew up in Charlottesville, VA, and New Orleans, LA. She was the daughter of the late Henry McComb Bush and Kate Minor Logan Bush.
Mary Minor was a 1951 graduate of St. Anne’s School in Charlottesville, VA, and a 1954 graduate of Newcomb College in New Orleans. After college, she moved to Baton Rouge, LA, where she met a small group of lifelong best friends and her husband, James (Jim) Fargason, Jr. They were married on November 21, 1956. Mary Minor was an editor for the LSU press. After her children, Clelia and Elizabeth, were born she became deeply involved in many non profit causes, including the Junior League of Baton Rouge. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames of America.
In 1972, the Fargason family relocated to Gulfport, MS. Mary Minor wrote for Coast Magazine, and she became involved in her church, St. Peters By the Sea Episcopal Church. Mary Minor was also involved in historical preservation throughout the community.
Mary Minor later moved to Diamondhead, MS. She volunteered at St. Thomas Episcopal Church and developed friendships with a group of ladies in the area. They went on outings, cruises, etc. together.
Her final residence was Ridgeland, MS where she could be near her daughter, Elizabeth.
She is survived by both her daughters, Clelia Fargason of Merritt Island, FL, and her daughter, Elizabeth Fargason Stanga, and her husband, Leonard (Len) Lewis Stanga, of Ridgeland, MS.
Gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in Mary Minor’s memory to the Mississippi Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
