Mary Jane Corkern -Smith made her Heavenly journey on Sunday, November 12th, after a long struggle with Dementia.
Mrs. Smith was a resident at Briar Hill Rest Home in Florence, MS. We would especially like to thank the administration and staff at Briar Hill for the love and supportive care they provided to our Mom during her time there.
Mrs. Smith was born in Jackson MS on August 10, 1928. She attended Central High School,
and Bob Jones University. She was a lifelong member of Grace Bible Church in Ridgeland, MS. Mrs. Smith was happily married to our wonderful father, Bobby Lee Corkern in 1950 until his death in 1975. Bob and Mary Jane had six children, Brenda Darling (Greg), Cindy Atwood (John), Mark Corkern (Sandy), Christy Daughtry, Richard Lee Corkern (Sheree) and Kathy Ford (Don). They were also blessed with 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Mary Jane married A. Clinton Smith in 1991 and they enjoyed many years of happiness until his death in 2002. Mom was so proud to add three more children to make her family complete, James Clinton Smith (Lois), Jon David Smith (Jean), and Meddy Smith Grantham (Jerry), along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her brother Dr. Byrd Lamar “Sonny” Payne (Kay). She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen Byrd and Betty Mae Payne, two sisters, Maxine Statham and Bobbie Jo Lyles, and her grandsons, Stephen Corkern and Chad Werne.
We are thankful for the many years we were blessed to have our mother. Her faith in Jesus Christ was paramount in her life. She was a wonderful example of a Christian…leading her children to trust in God, and making sure her life was a true Testament to her Faith.
We love you, Mom. #UntilThen
