Obituary for Mary C. Peery
Mary C. Peery died peacefully on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at Brandon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 94 years old.
A native of Mendenhall, Mississippi and born on July 29, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Walter C. Currie and Mary Georgia Currie.
Mary and R. B. Peery were married on June 6, 1948. They settled in Jackson, Mississippi where they raised their family and enjoyed spending time with friends. She was a member of Park Place Baptist Church and former longtime member of Broadmoor Baptist Church.
Mary was a caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She dearly loved her family.
Mary is remembered by many as a crossing guard at St. Richard’s and worked for many years in the daycare at Broadmoor Baptist Church. Mary’s grandsons fondly remember visiting her at the daycare with their grandfather, spending the night on weekends, trips to the coast, playing cards, and celebratory meals at their home.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, R. B.; her son, Alan; sisters, Hassie Currie, Orene C. Aultman, Edith C. Molpus, and brother, Walter Ray Currie.
She is survived by her children, Anne Peery, Pam Hodges (Rodney), Phil Peery; grandsons, Brian Hodges (Cheryl), David Hodges (Stephanie), 7 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the cemetery in Mendenhall, Mississippi. All are welcome to attend.
