Obituary for Mary Ann Snyder
Mary Ann Biggs Snyder, 96, a life-long resident of Jackson, Mississippi, died Sunday, September 9, 2018, in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Mary Ann was born in Jackson on August 8, 1922, the third child of Albert John and Evie Tucker Biggs. After her mother died, her father married Eleanor Coughlin Biggs, who was very much a mother to their young family. Mary Ann graduated from MSCW in 1944. Following her graduation, Mary Ann worked as a schoolteacher and served as a stewardess for American Airlines on the DC-3. In 1947, Mary Ann married Robert Sydney Snyder, and the couple lived in Oxford and Memphis while he attended medical school. Upon receiving his doctorate of medicine, the couple returned to Jackson, where they reared their four children. Mary Ann was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, where she was an active and dedicated member of her Circle, serving as both Circle chairman and treasurer for many years. Mary Ann also participated in several clubs and organizations, and she looked forward to her monthly meetings with her Town & Country Garden Club even in the final months of her life, often bringing her daughters and granddaughters as special guests. Mary Ann was deeply devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After the death of her husband in 1984, she poured herself into being a full-time grandmother. Mary Ann had twelve grandchildren over two decades, and she has been “Memaw” to her family and friends ever since. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sydney Snyder, her granddaughter Mary Ellen Ray, and her brothers A.J. Biggs Jr. and Robert Biggs. Mary Ann is survived by her children: Robert Sydney Snyder, Jr. (Brenda) of Jackson, Mary T. Ray of Flowood, Anne Myers (Tom) of Ridgeland, and Jane Stringer (Lynn) of Madison; her grandchildren: Ryan Annison (Meg) of Jackson, Lauren Mize (Micah) of Madison, Brandon Snyder (Carrie) of Jackson, Robert Stringer of Longmont, CO, Mary Margaret Lee (Kevin) of Nashville, TN, Sarah Frances Ray of Jackson, Sydney Stringer of Washington, D.C., Laura Myers of Ridgeland, Ann Walton Stringer of Nashville, TN, Sam Ray of Flowood, and Ryan Myers of Ridgeland; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister Helen Waren (Malcolm) of Brandon and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at the Clinton Cemetery (500 East College Street, Clinton, MS 39056) on Thursday, September 13, at 11:00am.
