Marion Lee Murrah, 81, died Friday October 18, 2024, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2024, at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Murrah was born on December 20, 1942, in Isola, Mississippi, and was the son of the late John Ed Murrah and Laura Thelma Burkes Murrah. He graduated from Raymond High School, where he excelled in football, as well as track and field. A veteran of the United States Navy, he served as a rescue diver. from 1961 -1967. Mr. Murrah married Nancy Noah on November 4, 1967, shortly after returning home from the service. He continued serving in the United States Naval Reserves for 4 years.
He began working for Jackson Coca Cola in 1963, loading trucks, receiving promotions to Route Manger, and finally to Sales Manager (New Age Sales Manager). Mr. Murrah retired in 1997.
In 1998, Mr. Murrah began a second career at Rainbow Casino. He began as a Security Officer and then Blackjack Dealer and was recognized as Employee of the Month in April 1999. He retired from Rainbow Casino in 2008.
He enjoyed bowling and was a longtime member of a bowling league. Mr, Murrah also enjoyed deer hunting, coached ladies’ softball and was an avid Mississippi State Bulldog Fan.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death, by siblings, Clara Melton, Linda Barnes, Geri Evans, Ethel Watson, Joy Sumrall, Kris Dobszewicz and Baby Boy Murrah.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Noah Murrah of Clinton; daughter, Neki Murrah Albritton of Gulfport; granddaughter, Tori "Tootum" Pennington and her husband, Chad; great grandsons, Mason Lee Pennington, Brayden Reese Pennington, Carter James Pennington, and Greyson Edward Pennington; three nephews and two nieces.
In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.
