Obituary for Marion "Jay" Jerry Harrison
Marion "Jay: Jerry Harrison, died Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Highland Home in Ridgeland. A service honoring his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Twin Lakes Baptist Church in Madison.
Mr. Harrison was born on April 24, 1939, in Jackson. He was the son of the late Marion Wilbur Harrison and Effie Mae Dukes Harrison. Reared in Raymond, he was a graduate of Forest Hill High School, where he was a member of the basketball and football team. A versatile athlete, he was the quarterback, punter and kicker for the football team and named most athletic his senior year. He continued his education at Hinds Junior College, where he was a respected member of the football team.
During his college years, Mr. Harrison moved to Arlington, Texas where he attended the University of Texas at Arlington, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.
After graduation he moved back home and began working at the R&D Center in Jackson; however, quickly decided that he had a passion for homebuilding. Over the next 45 years, Mr. Harrison became a successful homebuilder and in the last 10-15 years of his career, he had established quite a reputation and built many custom homes in the Madison area. After retirement, he continued his desire to work and would solicit any of his old friends to let him help. In the last few years, Mr. Harrison mostly enjoyed helping his friend Darrelle with his dirt work business and operating the dirt packer.
Along with his parents, Marion Wilbur Harrison and Effie Mae Dukes Harrison, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Wilber Ray Harrison and Ronald Walton Harrison.
He is survived by his daughter, Keena Harrison Frazier and her husband Brian, of Madison, and his son, Jason Harrison and his wife Megan, of New Albany. He is also survived by his grandchildren Tyler Jones of Fort Worth, TX, and Sara Grace, Olivia and Ella Harrison all of Madison; sister, Wanda Sue Harrison Evans and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to Twin Lakes Baptist Church Building Fund, 673 Lake Cavalier Road, Madison, MS 39110.
