Marilyn Shoemaker McGehee passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Visitation will be at Broadmoor Baptist Church Chapel on Tuesday March 21, 2023 from 9-11. A celebration of her life and her love for our Lord Jesus Christ will be at 11 o’clock in the Chapel. Burial immediately following at Parkway Memorial Cemetery on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland. Arrangements are being facilitated through Sebrell Funeral Home
Marilyn was born on January 28, 1941 in Mendenhall, Mississippi to Vida Evelyn Nichols Shoemaker and N.R. Shoemaker. She graduated from Provine High School in 1959. While at Provine, she met the love of her life, Ben McGehee. On June 2, 1961, she and Ben married. Upon graduation, Marilyn and Ben enrolled in the University of Southern Mississippi. Soon after her first y
ear at USM, she discontinued her education to become a full time wife. Marilyn and Ben soon settled in Jackson where they started a family.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Vida and N.R. Shoemaker; her sister, Evelyn Nichols Holmes Patrick, and her grandson, Benjamin Hutch McGehee.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ben McGehee, her children; Mike McGehee (Bethany), Kim McGehee Holman ( Philip), and Tracy McGehee Ashworth (Forrest); her grandchildren, Lauren Marie Ashworth, Rachel Lynn Ashworth Shepard (Dallas), Walker Reed Ashworth, Paul Harlen McGehee, Candace Rebecca Holman, Colton Andrew Holman, John Culley Harless, Julia Frances Harless, and Elizabeth Flinn Harless; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Millie and Bob Crosby.
Marilyn’s greatest joys were her family, friends, and church family. She and Ben excitedly participated in numerous Mission Trips around the country. Traveling with her family and church were some of her fondest memories
Pallbearers are Forrest Ashworth, Philip Holman, Walker Ashworth, Dallas Shepard, Colton Holman and Richard Butler.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Broadmoor Baptist Church Missions, 1531 Highland Colony Parkway, Madison, Mississippi.
The family would like to sincerely thank The Nichols Home, administrator, Greg Ward and countless staff of RN’s, CNA’s, admission staff, activity staff and those who took such great care of their wife and mother. We are forever grateful.
