Obituary for Maridel Russell
MARIDEL RUSSELL

Maridel Russell died on Friday, September 4, 2020 at her home. She was 88.

A native of Yazoo City and born November 16, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Delphin D. and Mary Robert Hill Russell.

Ms. Russell was a resident of Jackson for most of her life. She was a nursing class graduate of St. Dominic’s Hospital where she would spend over 40 years of dedicated and exceptional service as a Registered Nurse to the profession. She retired from St. Dominic’s in 1993. Throughout her nursing career, she touched thousands of lives as a caregiver, teacher, mentor, administrator, and a leader. She was committed to her family, her friends, and to the nursing profession.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Sara Lane Holloway and her husband, Willis; a brother, Frank Russell and his wife, Donna; nieces, Stacie Lane Holloway and Katherine Holloway; and a nephew, David B. Holloway.

She is survived by her niece, Laurie Holloway and wife, Deanna, of Occoquan, VA; nephew, Del Holloway, of Berkeley Springs, WV; her best friend and companion, Sherry Goodman, of Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
