Obituary for Maria Montano Balthis
Maria Montano Balthis, 85, died August 7, 2020 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. A private graveside service was held Sunday, August 9, 2020 at Lakeland Place Garden Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Balthis was born on December 13, 1934 in Tampico, Mexico; the daughter of the late Enrique and Evangeline Navarette. She immigrated to Laredo, TX and became a US citizen in 1953. While living in Laredo, she met and married Air Force serviceman Donald Balthis. After transferring to Columbus Air Force Base they settled in Columbus, Mississippi where they reared their family.
Mrs. Balthis attended the MUW, where she studied nursing. She served most of her adult life in the medical field serving in the operating room to being a caregiver. Because of dedication to her profession, she inspired her daughters to enter the field of medicine.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Donald Wayne Balthis and brother, Louis Montano.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren including; Patsy Balthis Cobb and husband Jimmy of Steens, MS and their children, Corrie Cobb of Steens and Derek Cobb of Denver, CO; Doni Shannon and her son Douglas, both of Brandon; David Balthis and wife Bunny of Biloxi and his children Ashley Balthis of Biloxi. Megan Stokes of Philadelphia, PA, and Mandee Balthis of Jackson; Lenora (Nora) Balthis of Madison; Michael Balthis and wife Robin of Columbus, MS and son, Grayson Balthis of Austin, TX and Paul Andrew (Andy) of Brandon.
