Obituary for MSGT Charles (Ted) Edwin Joy, USAF Ret.
MSGT Charles (Ted) Edwin Joy USAF, Ret., 82, died Sunday, September 30, 2018 at the Jackson Veterans Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Fannin with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM Monday at the Church. Graveside services with full military honors will follow in the Mississippi Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Newton.

Ted was born on February 2, 1936, in McGehee, AR; the son of the late Gerald and Winnie Joy. Reared in Jackson, he attended Central High School and continued his education at Hinds Community College. Ted joined the US Army in 1953 and served his country in the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge in 1958 and returned to Jackson where he accepted a position as a postal carrier with the US Postal Service.

Ted loved serving his country and in 1960, he joined the USAF. During his time in the Air Force, Ted was stationed in Germany and served two tours in Vietnam. During his career, he worked as a Radar Technician, Avionics Technician and an Airborne Navigational Aide. Ted was awarded numerous ribbons and medals during his career most notably, the Air Force Longevity Award and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He retired from service in 1980 as a Master Sergeant.

After retirement, Ted attended and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. Shortly after graduation, he accepted a position with the Paralyzed Veterans of America, where he served as the National Service Officer. Ted was first stationed in California and finally in Jackson. He dedicated his time to helping and serving veterans who gave so very much for our country. Ted was known to go the extra mile to assist veterans with their benefits.

Ted was currently working on a novel set during WWII and focused on the Jewish people and the atrocities thy faced in the Russian Theater. He was an authority on antique firearms.

Most of all Ted cherished his family. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Irwin and brother, Gerald Joy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine of Brandon; daughter, Janet Lea Stenman (Thomas) of Mt. Juliet, TN; daughter, Donna Lisa Ryals (Rob) of California; grandchildren, Thomas Stenman, Jr of Newark, DE; Robert Ryaks of California; Amber Vincion (John) Gladeville, TN; Jennifer Lockhart of Mt. Juliet, TN; Mistina Mitchell of Brandon, MS; great grandchildren, Kaelea Benson; Kathleen Vincion, Sean Vincion, Sullivan Vincion, Aiden Mitchell; great-great grandchild, Maverick Benson.
