Lula Lea Taylor Robbins was born on Feb. 27, 1935, in Magnolia, MS to Elliott Margaret and Meritte Farley Taylor. As her son held her right hand, Jesus peacefully took her left hand and lead her home on May 12, 2023.
Lula Lea, as she was known growing up, was a 1953 graduate of Magnolia High School. She was in the Glee Club, a Journalism Club officer, a member of the Young Teens, a Senior Class Officer and a 4-H Officer. She was voted Homecoming Queen, Miss M.H.S., Most Beautiful and Best Dressed.
After graduation, Lea moved to Jackson, MS where she graduated from Jackson Commercial College. In 1957, she met and married Billy Robbins. The couple moved to Columbus, MS, where they welcomed their only child Hal, the apple of her eye. While in Columbus, Lea worked for Hooker Chemical Company, was part owner of The Beauty Inn and modeled for Pryor’s Clothing Store. Lea participated in the Columbus Pilgrimage where she served as a hostess at Waverly Mansion for 4 years.
After returning to Jackson, Lea was active in First Baptist Church and worked for Leland, Speed, Mounger Company. Following her divorce, she worked at the law firm, Watkins, Pyle, Ludlam, Stennis and Winter and later at Dean Witter Reynolds. Lea moved to metro Atlanta in the late 1980’s and retired from Haverty Furniture Company’s corporate office after 16 years.
Lea was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and her sister. She is survived by her son, Hal Robbins and his wife Susan, her granddaughter, Annika Lea Robbins, all of Atlanta, GA, her sister-in-law Loyce Taylor, nieces, nephews and friends.
