Obituary for Lucille Wenger

Our beloved mother, Lucille Wenger, and Christ’s faithful servant was called home the morning of January 5 2024, at the age of 93. Born in Pigeon, Michigan on January 10, 1930, she was one of 5 children to Ezra and Anna Mayer. She graduated from Eastern Mennonite College, in Harrisonburg, Virginia with a degree in education. There she met John Wenger, who she later married in Pigeon Michigan on December 28, 1956. They began their life together in Newport News, Virginia and had 2 daughters, Paula, and Sharon. Here she initially taught at Warwick Christian School, followed by Newport News Public Schools. In 1965 they were called to the mission field, and served under the Elkart, Indiana Mennonite Mission Board in Israel. While there they had 2 more daughters, Julie, and Jenny. There John managed a travel agency, while Lucille was a homemaker, and home schooled their 4 children at various times. In August of 1976 they returned to the U.S. to live in Mississippi. Lucille resumed teaching with the Jackson Public School System before retiring in 1993. Lucille was very active in their church, First Baptist Church of Jackson, MS. There she was involved in the WMU, (Women’s’ Missionary Union), taught Sunday School, as well as teaching English as a second language to the international community for 17 years. Teaching the

international students developed into a passion for her, and she has retained several friends from over the years.

Lucille Wenger was proceeded by her parents, 2 sisters (Irene & Gladys) and her husband. She is survived by her brother, Willard Mayer, and sister, Verda Mayer. She is survived by her daughters, Paula (Lamar) Duffy, Sharon (Paul) Montgomery, Julie (Frank) Allnutt, and Jenny Crutchfield. Grandchildren, Ashleigh (Danny) Clayburn, Caitlyn Duffy, John Brandon (Marley) Montgomery, Natalie Montgomery, Haley (Josh) Gramm, Hunter Crutchfield, Anna Carson Crutchfield, Kristina Allnutt, John Allnutt, Hudson Crutchfield, Brayden Allnutt, Kayleigh Montgomery, Nicholas Allnutt, Kyra Allnutt, and Mackenzie Allnutt. Great grandchildren, Julian Montgomery, Gipson Clayburn and Aurora Gramm.



A private service for family and few close friends will be held at First Baptist Church Chapel in Jackson, MS with internment at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery in Clinton, MS. In Lieu of flowers, she has requested a memorial donation to Friend to Friend International Ministry (ESL) at First Baptist Church, Jackson, MS
