Obituary for Lt. Col. (R) Wayne Prokup
Wayne J. Prokup, age 90, of Jackson, Mississippi died July 27, 2021. A visitation will held at Sebrell Funeral Home Friday, July 30, 2021 from 1 PM until 2 PM. Burial will be in Elm Memorial Park Cemetery in Princeton, Illinois at a later date (TBA). Memorials can be made to Mississippi Animal Rescue 5221 Greenway Dr Exd, Jackson, MS 39204 to honor Wayne’s love for animals, especially his cats.
Wayne was born August 2, 1930 in Peoria, Illinois, the son of late Paul and Ruth Waters Prokup. He married Donna Price on November 25, 1953 in Annawan, Illinois.
After graduating from Mineral High School, Wayne served in the U.S. Army for 23 years. He was a member of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Rangers, retiring as a Lt. Colonel, after serving tours in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam; where he served as Battalion Commander and was subsequently awarded a Silver Star for his actions.
Wayne was an avid gun collector and enjoyed collecting antiques and other collectibles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Pokup. Survivors include his wife Donna; his sister-in-law, Fama Prokup of Geneseo, Illinois; several nephews and nieces.
