GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Loretta “Retta” Camp DeFoe West went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2022 at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS. Loretta was 70 years young.
Born in Clarksdale, MS, she was the daughter of the late Loretta Stampley DeFoe and Billy Jim DeFoe, granddaughter of the late and her beloved Jesse “Pops” DeFoe and Mildred “Mimi” DeFoe.
Loretta was many things to many people. As she stepped in to each role with determination, she left a definitive imprint on those who knew her. She grew up in Jackson, MS and went on to attend Mississippi State University, where she received a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in education. Also, she furthered her studies by receiving an Educational Specialist degree. Loretta was an active member of the Kappa Delta sorority. She was an avid Mississippi State sports fan, particularly football. After college, Loretta spent much of her life as a special education teacher and school counselor. She held a special place in her heart for the physically and mentally handicapped children. Loretta’s favorite place in the world was the beach, and she never missed her yearly trip with her friends. She loved her family, particularly her children and grandchildren, more than anything. She was a follower of Jesus Christ, and is missed deeply by her family, friends, and everyone in her life she touched.
In addition to her mother and beloved grandparents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel “Danny” E. West. She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Belue (Bryan); her son, DeFoe West (Alex); her brother; Jim DeFoe (Laurie); her grandchildren; Dawson, Addison, and Kierson Belue; and many other close family members including cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 11, with visitation beginning at 9:30am at Pinelake Church Madison Campus.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you consider a donation to:
Mustardseed, Easterseals, Wounded Warrior project, or your local animal shelter.
