Obituary for Lindy Lafaye Root
Lindy Lafaye Root passed away on Wednesday, February, 16, 2022, after a valiant struggle with breast cancer. She was born April 1, 1962 in Brandon, Mississippi, and was the daughter of Jacqueline Smith Root and Jack Thomas Root. She was a graduate of Brandon Academy and the University of Mississippi. Lindy was predeceased by her mother and her sister, Lara Ashley (Root) Coleman. She is survived by her father, her nephews, William Robert Coleman, III and Thomas Smith Coleman and many other loving relatives.
Throughout her years long ordeal, Lindy’s remarkable courage never faltered, nor did her grace, or her will for and love of life. Lindy was inspired by the principles known to all women fighting breast cancer, “Hope, Love, Life.”
Lindy’s life was marked by her enduring love for her family and friends. Her laugh was pure magic, and she shared that magic freely. Tennis was a passion, both as a player on the court, and as a devoted fan of the game. Annual trips to the U.S. Open were always special. Lindy’s family and friends will fondly remember her insatiable curiosity, her spirited wit, and her optimism and strength.
While at Ole Miss, Lindy was the President of Phi Mu Sorority. The special group of sorority sisters that were blessed to befriend her and each other, quite accurately call themselves the “Fun Friends.” Lindy will always be a Fun Friend. Lindy had a constellation of professional accomplishments that complimented her personal life. Lindy was a Professional Court Reporter and the owner of Affiliated Court Reporters in New Orleans. While Lindy may have been based in New Orleans, the respect her attorney clients had for her work took her as far away as Singapore. Her attorney clients have lost not only the perfection she brought to her work, but a friend as well. Lindy was a published author and co-authored the book entitled “No-Nonsense Guide to Windows 95.” Lindy greatly loved music here on earth and this joy is surely amplified now by the angelic choir in Heaven.
Lindy’s family would like to thank and honor the compassion of Dr. Chris Theodossiou, and all the physicians and nurses at Oschner Hospital and the Oschner Transfusion Center in New Orleans.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Northminster Baptist Church, 3955 Ridgewood Rd., Jackson, MS, 39211.
