Linda Noble Lange died peacefully at home on November 8, 2022, surrounded by the family she loved and to whom she dedicated her life. She suffered a brief decline after complications from a rare blood disorder that she managed stoically and privately for over 25 years.
Her parents, Hilda and Allen Noble had their roots in rural Alabama and Arkansas, and she cherished her childhood memories of family there. Linda was born in Atlanta and raised in Wetumpka and later Birmingham, Alabama. In 1962, she graduated from Banks High School in Birmingham where she was voted Most Beautiful. Linda went on to attend Auburn University, graduating in 1967. Always popular, Linda was voted Best Dressed her senior year. She lived up to both titles for the remainder of her life.
It was at Auburn that she met and married John Lange, her beloved husband of 55 years. They moved to his hometown of Jackson, Mississippi, where they made a life and raised their children, Alan and Courtney. Linda was actively involved in all aspects of their lives, providing unconditional love and support. While she was involved in a variety of community affairs and was a member of the Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church Inquirers Sunday School Class, her center point was unquestionably her family.
As her children grew, Linda began working part-time for McRae’s Department Store, where she worked for over 20 years, and met those who would later become some of her closest friends. Starting at the Regency Room, she was a go-to consultant and became well-known company-wide. Eventually, she became a personal shopper for a select clientele.
Linda took up hunting at the age of 60 and killed a deer with the first shot fired. She continued to hunt into her mid-70s and made some of her best friends and memories doing so. She loved politics, scary movies, Motown music, and creating special memories for her children and grandchildren—many of which involved balloons and elaborate scavenger hunts.
She is predeceased by her father, Allen Noble, her mother, Hilda Noble, and her brother and best friend, James Noble. She is survived by her husband, John Lange, their son Alan Lange, his wife Holly, and their sons, Ford and Jake, who affectionately called her “Puffy.” She is also survived by her daughter, Courtney Lange, and her partner, Lynn Tincher-Ladner.
Linda’s extended family includes sister-in-law Donna Noble, niece Lisa Blackmon (Kenny) of Wetumpka, Alabama, nephew Mike Noble (Lorri), also of Wetumpka, Alabama, and niece Heather Garger of Newnan, Georgia.
The family would like to thank Doctors Grace Shumaker and Justin Baker and the staff of the Hederman Cancer Center at Baptist Hospital for helping to add life to her years and years to her life. She was resolute that there were “fates worse than dying” and managed her condition with tenacity and grace.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mary Martha Ministry at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at the family home on November 15th with interment at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church Columbarium at a later date.
