Obituary for Linda Maxine Hester
Linda Maxine Gilbert Hester died Monday, July 16, 2018 in her home in Byram. She was 89. A native of Lena, Mississippi, born March 25, 1929, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Mattie Sue Tripp Gilbert. Mrs. Hester retired from Sperry Vickers as Lead Quality Inspector with more than 15 years of service. She was an avid sportsman and especially enjoyed fishing and camping. She was a hard worker and dedicated to providing for her family. During and following her husband’s lengthy illness in his twenties, she became the sole provider for her family . . . her children remember her devotion, love, and perseverance. She cared deeply for others and never met a stranger. She especially loved animals especially her pets. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, and friend. Over the years, she had been a member of Ludlow Baptist Church and Alta Woods Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father their children, Ben Edward Pulliam, Jr.; and husband, Albert James Hester. She is survived by her children: son, James E. Pulliam, Sr. (Cheryl), of Clinton; daughter, Rita Norton (Charles), of Terry; daughter, Linda Lee (Buddy), of Madison; sisters: Mary Craig, Flora Slay (Pete), and Peggy Shorter (Harold), all of Lena, MS; brother, Jim Gilbert, of Baton Rouge; grandchildren: Jamie Pulliam (Tanya), Greg Pulliam, Kimber Medley (Tony), Thomas Norton (Lisa), Chris Hinton (Melissa), Keely Paxton (Scott), Lauren Evans (Justin); 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Friends are invited to visitation with the family at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Wynndale Baptist Church, 11287 Springridge Rd. in Terry, followed by the memorial service at 4:00 p.m., Dr. Jerry L. Smith, Pastor, officiating. The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to their Mother’s caregivers especially Ms. Ronda Jordan, primary caregiver for 7 years, and Ms. Aretha Larry, caregiver for the last 1 ½ years. These remarkable and loving ladies lived in Mom’s home alternately every other week. They cared for her 24/7 during these times. They have been such a rich blessing to the family and to their Mom.
