Obituary for Linda Jean Truesdale Watkins
Linda Jean Truesdale Watkins
August 4, 1981 – January 13, 2020
Linda Jean Truesdale Watkins departed this earth in the early evening of January 13, 2020, and immediately stepped into the arms of her loving Savior. Linda had battled cancer with a warrior’s spirit for several years, and although her absence leaves a huge hole in the hearts of those who loved her, we rejoice in the knowledge that Jesus is holding her perfectly healed, eternal body in His mighty Hands.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, and are planned as follows: First Baptist Church of Ridgeland, Visitation for Friends and Guests from 10:00 to 11:00, followed by a service at the church at 11:00. Rev. Brad Butler and Dr. Mark Byrd will officiate. Burial will be at Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland immediately after the service.
Linda was born on August 4, 1981 in Jackson MS. She was the second child of Patricia Butler Truesdale and Wayne Truesdale and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Ridgeland. She attended and graduated with honors from Madison Ridgeland Academy. Linda then attended Belhaven University and graduated summa cum laude in with a major in Fine Arts. Linda’s brilliant and creative mind never faltered, even throughout her illness – nor did her fortitude and her determination to live her life to the fullest.
Linda met the love of her life, Cary Watkins in 2006, and they married on September 20, 2008. God blessed Linda and Cary with the birth of their beloved son Caleb on October 20, 2010. Linda loved Cary and Caleb with a fierce spirit and always found a way to entertain Caleb even throughout her illness.
Broadmoor Baptist Church was privileged to employ Linda as Communications Coordinator, beginning in 2005. While there, she worked with staff and church members to artistically communicate ideas and information through all of the church’s media channels. She was a loyal employee who worked tirelessly, in spite of battling cancer; at times Linda performed her job even while receiving treatment or from her hospital bed.
Linda’s relationship with her family was very important to her, and her mother Pat was her devoted caregiver for the last several years. Their love for each other was obvious to anyone who saw them.
Linda is survived by her loving husband Cary Watkins and her precious son Caleb, as well as her devoted mother Pat Truesdale and her brother Bobby Truesdale, his wife Jennifer, and their children Reed and Lana. She will also be missed by her family of aunts and uncles and numerous cousins and many, many friends. Linda was also a devoted daughter in law to Cary’s parents Janis and Gene Watkins. She was preceded in death by her father Wayne Truesdale and her grandparents.
Linda was a blessing and a joy to all who met her; her sweet but determined spirit was an inspiration to family, friends, and even strangers. Her love for her God and her belief in her Savior were always at the forefront when she offered words of encouragement or advice. Many people that she met in the hospital at various times have remarked about how Linda had impacted their lives in a positive way. She will be missed by all of us who knew and loved her, but we rejoice that she is at home in heaven. Linda, we will all see you when we get HOME.
