Obituary for Leigh Schutt
Leigh Schutt passed away on April 13, 2022 in Jackson, MS.
Leigh was born on February 22, 1958 in Fairbanks, Alaska, to Wallis J and Suzanne Peery Schutt.
She graduated from Clinton High School in 1976, where she was a member of the marching band as a Flag girl along with playing the flute and piccolo in the concert band. After graduation, Leigh attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where she continued her love of the band, serving as a flag girl with the Golden Eagles Marching Band while earning a degree in Elementary Education. Her teaching career began at Fort Polk Army base in Louisiana where she became an army wife. She had her first daughter Suzanne before moving to Arizona, where her second daughter Kimberly was born, both of whom were her pride and joy. After three years of living in Karlsruhe, Germany, they moved back to the states settling in Clinton. As the girls were starting their teenage years, Leigh returned to USM and received her Master’s degree in social work. She used it to do hospice work for several years and then volunteer work with hospice later in life.
Leigh fought a long and hard battle with depression, and while we can never understand the suffering going on in her mind, the pain in our hearts is a testament to her meaning in this world. She loved with all her heart, and while she had to let go of this world to find peace, we will hold on to her memory in our hearts so that she will live forever.
Leigh was predeceased by her mother, Suzanne, grandparents Jim and Sudie Peery, and Wallis and Jane Schutt.
She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Strickland and husband, Chris of Philadelphia, MS., Kimberly Sereduck of Durango, Colorado, and her beautiful grandchildren Henry, Nicholas, Benjamin, and Margaret, all of Durango, Colorado. Her father Wallis J Schutt of Clinton, Ms., brother Wally Schutt and wife Eileen of Florence, Ms. and sister Anne Turner of Clinton, MS. She is also survived by nephews Joe Schutt and Townes Turner, great nephew Ethan Rushing all of Florence and nieces Amanda Bunner of Hilo,Hawaii and Shannon Schutt also of Florence.
