Obituary for Laurie (Fran) Thompson Watters
In the arms of her husband, surrounded by her children, Laurie (Fran) Thompson Watters went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 5, 2017. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2016 in the chapel of Broadmoor Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m Monday and 10:00 a.m Tuesday. All visitations will be held at the church. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery in Crossroads, MS. Fran’s life was characterized by a strong faith, an unwavering love for her husband Bill, and a relentless commitment to see her children, Ross, Rachel, and Zachary know that they are loved and that God desires each of them to walk in a manner worthy of their calling in Christ Jesus. Fran was born in Morton, Mississippi, to Merl and Naydene (Allen) Thompson. She grew up with her three sisters in the Crossroads community. She married William C. (Bill) Watters in 1981 at Crossroads Baptist Church. Fran’s heart for people, especially children and mothers, was evident early in her marriage. She taught and mentored countless children and teenagers through the years. She attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Mississippi College, and graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BSN, and began a heartfelt career as a nurse. Fran’s love for people was demonstrated in each place she lived and in every season of life. With new vocational assignments, Bill and Fran and their young family lived in Louisiana, Illinois, and settled in Memphis, Tennessee. Mullins Station Baptist Church became family for Fran, Bill, Ross, Rachel, and Zachary. It was there that they responded to the call of God to live internationally in Baku, Azerbaijan and Istanbul, Turkey. These opportunities to meld business with missions gave Fran limitless opportunities to exercise her gifts of hospitality and service. While she was passionate about the truth and the Word of God, she was extremely relational in her approach to missions and in her life in general. Her compassion and care for people overflowed constantly. Intelligent and intuitive, Fran found opportunities to guide and encourage many through the years. When the family returned to Madison in 2011, Fran resumed doing what she loved most, nurturing and cheering on her children and working as a nurse for mothers and babies at UMMC. Fran is preceded in death by her parents, Merle Thompson and Nadine Allen Thompson and her sister, Sherrie Thompson. Survivors include her husband,William C (Bill)Watters of Madison; son, Ross Watters and wife Pollyanne of Clinton; daughter, Rachel Watters of Madison; son, Zachary Watters, III. of Madison and sisters, Julie Flint and husband Jimmy of Crossroad, MS and Kris Goldman and husband Horace of Crossroads, MS. Fran Thompson Watters leaves a legacy of a Christ-centered life resulting in innumerable lives touched, served, and changed for God’s glory.
