L. Graham Hughes

L. Graham Hughes of Jackson, MS passed away at MS Veteran’s Home on Monday, December 26, 2022. He had been a practicing Petroleum Geologist for 35 years before his retirement in 1989.
Mr. Hughes was a native of Monroe, Louisiana and had been designated a Distinguished Military Graduate by Louisiana State University. He served as an Air Force counterintelligence officer assigned to the OSI during the Korean War On release from active duty he resumed his career in oil and gas exploration within the southeastern United States. At his retirement in 1989 he was serving as Managing Partner of Guarding Oil Company, a Jackson based oil and gas exploration firm. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
He was a former Chairman of the Jackson Municipal Library Board and a member of the Evangelical Pulpit Publishing Committee. Mr. Hughes had been a member of the Jackson Club, The River Hills Tennis Club and the Capital City Petroleum Club.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor, and three daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Sallie Hughes) Lowman of Birmingham, AL; Mrs. Paul (Mary Hughes) Bowden of Jackson, MS; Mrs. Todd (Laura Hughes) Trew of Cleveland, TN; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by a nephew, Hughes Ablell of Austin, TX, and Dixon Abell of Monroe, LA. He was preceded in death by one sister, Bennie Abelll if Monroe, LA.and Nelson Ablell of Monnroe, LA.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12 noon Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the Orrchard, 200 S. Pear Orchard Road, Ridgeland, MS followed by a private family graveside at Lakewood Memorial Park.
