Obituary for Kenneth Edgar Brooks, Jr.
Kenneth Edgar Brooks, Jr. was born February 23, 1942, in Centralia, Illinois; the son of the late Kenneth Edgar Brooks, Sr. and Veronica Marie Maloney Brooks. A graduate of Texas Tech University, Mr. Brooks served our country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam, piloting Sea Knight helicopters to transport and supply the Marines and transport wounded Marines out.
He achieved the rank of Captain in the Marines and his unit received the USN/USMC Meritorious Unit Commendation. For his service to our country, he received the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, twenty Air Medals, two Vietnam Service bronze stars, and numerous awards, commendations, and decorations. After receiving his discharge, he settled in Delaware, where he completed his MBA. Mr. Brooks joined the Delaware Army National Guard as a helicopter pilot. He transferred to the Missouri Army National Guard and flew helicopters out of Whiteman Air Force Base. He transferred to the United States Army Reserve where he flew helicopters. Also, he transferred to the Kansas Army National Guard where he flew helicopters and served as a Selective Service Officer. He retired from the Kansas Army National Guard as a Chief Warrant Officer, 4th grade, with over thirty-two years of active commissioned military service.
As a civilian, he worked for New Castle county in Delaware, in various administrative and supervisory roles, and as Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation for Kansas City, Missouri. He was a licensed insurance agent. While retired, he touched many lives in his work as a courier. He enjoyed his work and the people he worked with.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Amy Miazza Brooks. Survivors include son, Gregory Brooks of Portland, OR; daughter, Kimberly Brooks Gilliam and her husband Clifton of San Marcos, TX; his sister, Lee Ann Petrick and her husband David of Austin, TX; numerous cousins, two nephews, and a large extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday May 31, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 P.M., Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at the Mississippi State Veterans Cemetery in Newton.
