Kenny is survived by his wife of 30 years, Terri Gardner Phillips; two children, Anna Grace Phillips of Memphis, TN and Clayton Allen Phillips of Madison, MS; his mother, Faye Phillips McFarland and step-father Ray McFarland of Raymond, MS; his sister, Dena Lauren Phillips and her daughter, April Livingston; Brother-in-law, Rick Gardner (Heather) and their children, Mabry Gardner and Grant Gardner; Sister-in-law, Ginger Gardner Samson (Stephen) and their children, Gray Samson and Jordan Samson (Regan); Step-brothers, Larry McFarland (Michelle) , Kenny McFarland, Terry McFarland (Heidi) and Darryl McFarland; Uncle, Lawson Cook, Jr. (Kay); and aunt, Phyllis McWilliams. Kenny was preceded in death by his father, Rodney Allen Phillips; paternal grandparents, Floyd & Vera Vogelsang Phillips; and maternal grandparents, Lawson and Lula Burton Cook.
Kenny was born in 1966 in Jackson, MS. He graduated from Magnolia Academy in 1984 and went on to attend Hinds Community College. He was baptized at Broadmoor Baptist Church and was a long-time member.
Kenny was employed at Waypoint, a food service sales and marketing agency. He previously worked at Sysco Food Service as the Marketing Brand Manager. His career also included being a salesman for Woodmen Life. Kenny and Terri enjoyed traveling to various destinations awarded to Kenny by his sales efforts. He developed many life-long friendships through his work.
As an avid outdoorsmen, Kenny especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He rarely missed a weekend at deer camp or an opportunity to spend time with his deer camp buddies. Kenny’s favorite place was in the woods. He relished the peace and quiet and being surrounded by trees. One of his greatest joys was hunting with his son, Clayton. Kenny had a very generous spirit and derived much pleasure from cooking and grilling for his family and friends. It was a rare occasion if he didn’t arrive with a plate of something he had grilled or smoked to contribute to a family gathering.
Kenny’s family and friends knew him as loyal and hardworking. His mother described him as “every mother’s dream”, a sweet boy all of his life. He loved people, but most of all he loved his family. He was dedicated to caring and providing for their every need. He was a precious son and a precious dad.
