Obituary for Katy Jacks Percell
Katy Jacks Percell, age 69, died on January 18, 2019, from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). For the last 3 years, Katy had lived at Methodist Specialty Care Center in Flowood, where she was well served and loved by the excellent staff there.

Katy was raised in Mississippi and Kansas, graduating from Arkansas City High School in Arkansas City, Kansas (1968), and later earned a BS in education from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She lived most of her adult life in Knoxville and raised her three children there, always rooting for the Vols. For many years, she worked as the Activity Director for a number of nursing homes. She always loved dressing up in a costume, throwing a party for elderly patients, and making people smile.

Katy loved music (especially Michael Jackson), dancing, craft shows, the Great Smoky Mountains, and spending time with her family. She was full of life, spunky, and later in life really loved learning more about Christ and reading the Bible with family and friends.

Katy was preceded in death by her parents, Talford and Lola Mae Jacks, her sisters Norma Neubold and Julia Covert, and her youngest son, Jeffrey Scrugham. Katy is survived by her children, Richard Scrugham (and wife Jennifer) of Knoxville, Jennifer Holbert (and husband Rick) of Jackson, and daughter-in-law Lauren Scrugham (wife of Jeffrey) of Memphis. She is also survived by ten grandchildren that she loved greatly: Daniel, Andrew and Matthew Scrugham, Stephen, Ansley, Sadie and Emma Holbert, and Langston, Edward and Lyda Scrugham.

Katy was a believer in Jesus Christ, and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Jackson. A visitation will be held for Katy at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 9 am - 11 am. A memorial service will be held at 11 am, officiated by Rev. Rick Holbert and Rev. Wiley Lowry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katy’s name to a leading ALS non-profit organization, the Team Gleason Foundation, at PO Box 24493, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70184.

Katy’s family wishes to express their gratitude to those who helped Katy in her battle with ALS, including: the staff of Methodist Specialty Care Center in Flowood, Rev. Wiley Lowry of FPC, Brandi Nickels of the ALS Foundation of Mississippi, Laura McCarty, and Daphne Clark
