On July 14th, Kathy’s journey in this world ended at the hands of the Lord. She was a teachers’ teacher, having taught in California, Georgia, and lastly at G. N. Smith Elementary in Jackson, Mississippi. She loved her first graders and kept them moving forward through her unwavering care and diligence.
She was born in Berkeley, CA on 12/6/1941 of John Carey and Martha Fuller MacFarlane. With Pearl Harbor occurring the next day, her father always teased that her birth caused the California blackouts. Kathy finished her education at Whittier College in CA where she forged life-long friends. In the 80s she moved to Brandon, Mississippi where she lived out her life, in addition to some fun summers with friends and family in Jamestown, NY.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Louis R. Iannelli. She leaves behind her sons Damon (Lisa), Richard (Juli), and Steve; grandchildren Garrott, Nicole, Joseph, and Alden. Kathy is survived by her older brother Robert MacFarlane and his wife Jackie of Los Alamos, NM and her favorite cousin Terry MacFarlane of Garden Grove, CA.
Kathy was an artist and avid gardener. Many in Castlewoods would catch her in her yard weeding and would stop by for a visit. She fought the good fight with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. She will be missed by all including family, friends, and her flowers.
Her service will be Friday the 21st, 2023 at 10:00 AM, St. Paul Catholic Church, Flowood, MS, with burial following at Lakeland Place.
