Kate Yerger Box Madison
Kate Yerger Box, 94, died May 8, 2022, at home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Briarwood United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. A graveside will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery in Rosedale, MS.
Mrs. Box was born on October 26, 1927, in Rosedale to the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Yerger. A graduate of Rosedale High School, she continued her education attending Mississippi College School for Women and graduated from Delta State University with a Life Time Teaching Degree in History. After the death of her husband, Joseph at age 50, she began working at Habersham Plantation Furniture for several years before becoming the Hostess for the ICU and CCU at Baptist Hospital. After working at Baptist for many years, Mrs. Box began working as the Pastor’s Secretary at Briarwood United Methodist Church where she eventually retired.
Mrs. Box was a member of the DAR, Huguenots Society, the Continental Club and Colonialist Dames. She loved to read and travel throughout the United States and abroad, especially England and Scotland.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Box; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Yerger; daughter, Kathy Box Willard; sister, Pattie Yerger Fowler and son-in-law, Charley Robinson.
Survivors include: daughter, Lucinda Box Willis and husband (C. Newt Willis) of Natchez, MS; Malinda Box Robinson of Westpoint, TN; son-on-law, Robert Russell Willard. of Brandon; brother-in-law, Thomas Manning and wife Joanne of Cleveland; grandchildren, Chet Willis and his wife Amy; Joe Willis and his wife, Lisa; Ben Willis; Ellen Sanders and her husband, Justin; Matthew Robinson and Todd Broadus and his wife Sarah and 15 great grandchildren and 1 great- great Grandchild. Memorials may be made to Briarwood United Methodist Church or Rosedale Cemetery.
