Obituary for Karen Lunsford Eldridge
Karen “Kay” Jean Lunsford Eldridge of Flora passed away at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson on July 21, 2020 at the age of 64. Kay was born to W. F. and Margie Lunsford of Flora, on November 1, 1955, in Vicksburg, MS. Kay graduated from Tri County Academy and attended Hinds JC. She was preceded in death by her parents W. F and Margie Lunsford and her brother Guy Lunsford. Kay is survived by her husband of 23 years, Harris Eldridge of Flora, two brothers Bill (Lynn) Lunsford of Clinton and Al (Debbie) Lunsford of Flora. Kay leaves several nephews, a niece and several great nieces and nephews and many cousins that she loved. Kay adored her Papaw and grandmother Hearn, they would pick her up after school on Friday and she would stay until Sunday and all summers, helping them with their store in Vicksburg. When her papaw died, she moved to Vicksburg to live with grandmother Beulah. Kay enjoyed hanging out with her two young cousins, Jay and Sam that lived down the road for them. Kay, her siblings and all the Hearn grandchildren had many fond memories of visiting and playing in their grandparents pasture. As a child Kay and the family enjoyed summer vacations at the beach. Every October 31st, she would call Bill for his birthday to say he was her twin because for that one day they were the same age. As an adult, Kay had a white cat named Baby; she adored that cat and truly treated it like a member of the family! When Al would visit he loved aggravating Kay by calling the cat Garfield when she would get worried he was going to accidently let it outside. Kay enjoyed teasing her nephew Christopher with a nickname she gave him of Butterbean. After her mother died, Kay grew really close to her cousin Vicki Hillman. Kay and Vicki would talk several times a week; Kay felt she could tell Vicki anything. In her last few months, Harris had to feed and dress Kay and take care of her needs while holding down a full time job.
