Justin Ryan Gann passed away unexpectedly at his home in Memphis on August 5, 2023. He was 43 years old.
Justin was born July 20, 1980 in Greenwood, Miss. to Jan Johnson Gann and Donald Gann. He grew up in Greenwood and graduated from Pillow Academy in 1998. He attended Mississippi Delta Community College and graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in Business. He also held a degree in Urban Planning from Jackson State University. Justin excelled in his work, with careers in real estate, auto sales and entrepreneurship before finding his life’s true calling as a stay-at-home dad to his daughter Tallulah.
Justin married the love of his life, Lauren King Gann, in 2016 in Austin, Texas. Together, they were known for their love of friends and family. Their first home in Austin was the center of life for everyone in their circle, where Justin could always be found in the kitchen, at the grill or in his garden. Justin was a creative and passionate cook and the ultimate barbeque king. After the birth of his daughter, cooking took on new meaning, and he began meal planning with a weekly schedule of themed dishes like “Whatever Wednesday,” “Fish Friday” and “Sizzling Saturday.”
Justin was a straight shooter and always told the truth. His love language was sarcasm, and if he didn’t pick on you, it probably meant that he didn’t like you. In his early years, Justin was known as one of the toughest guys in the Delta, always a defender of the underdog. He never backed down from a fight, and was the hardest hitter on the football team, where he will always be remembered for his glorious 50-yard touchdown.
Justin was equally known as a caring and kind soul, who wasn’t afraid to say “I love you.” He played his music loud and sang along. He liked cold beer and hot sauce. He was creative, handy and always helpful. He made you laugh until your sides hurt, and he’d cry with you when times were hard. He was an outlaw hippie with a heart of gold.
Justin’s greatest joy was the life he and Lauren built around their daughter Tallulah. He doted on his young daughter and attended to her every need. She was the light of his life and his proclaimed “BFF.”
Justin is survived by his wife Lauren, two-year-old daughter Tallulah, and a baby girl due in September; his mother Jan Hampton and stepfather Mickey, his brother Tyler Gann (Lori Beth) and stepmother Annette; his step brother Ryan Hampton (Kara), step sister Tiffany Hampton Bennett (Henry); aunts Judy Steele and Joanne Gatlin, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Donald Gann, maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Webb Johnson and paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gann, and his uncle Webb Johnson, Jr.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday August 13, 2023 at Sebrell Funeral Home 425 Northpark Drive Ridgeland, Ms. 39157. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in his honor at Sharing Our Love for Justin Gann and his Girls.
