Obituary for June Nix Gunn
June Nix Gunn, 93, died Thursday, January 14. 2021, at Hospice Ministries. A graveside service will be held Sunday, January 17, 2021, at Lakewood Memorial Park at 3:00pm.
Mrs. Gunn was born on June 28, 1927, in Montgomery County, MS, the daughter of the late William and Leola Pearl Nix. She graduated from Holmes Community College. Mrs. Gunn was an active and faithful member of Broadmeadow United Methodist Church, and used her talents as a member of the sanctuary choir.
She was active in the ministry of Goodwill. She was a dedicated volunteer, served as the chapel coordinator and was awarded volunteer of the year in 1991. Goodwill honored the Gunn family with naming the Chapel at Goodwill for her husband, William E. Gunn, Jr., and a conference room for June.
Mrs. Gunn will be remembered most for her kindness, happiness and the unconditional love she gave her family and friends.
She cherished her family and will always be remembered as a beloved mother and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William Edward Gunn, Jr., son. William Edward Gunn, III, granddaughter, Ashley Marie Gunn, and brother, Rule Nix.
Survivors include: daughter, Cherry Gunn Buckner and husband, Billy of Jackson; daughter-in-law, Cathy Parker Gunn of Mobile, AL; daughter, Melinda Gunn Wood and husband, Terry of Pontotoc, MS; grandchildren, Channon Willis and husband, Jim of Madison; Melissa McInnis and husband, Doug of Brandon; William E. Gunn, IV, and wife, Cathy of Mobile, AL; William Christopher Wood and wife, Katie of Stoughton, WI; Sarah Grace Golden and husband, Chris of Pontotoc, MS; 11 great- grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by brother, Jerry Nix and wife Carolyn of Winona and sister, Mozelle Ray of Kosciusko, MS.
Special gratitude and love to her caregivers, Roxanne Murray and Latoya Watson. We would also like to thank Hospice Ministries for their love and care.
