Obituary for Julius "Murt" Murray
JULIUS “MURT” MURRAY
Julius “Murt” Murray died Sunday, August 25, 2019 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. He was 89.
A native of and raised in Grenada, Mississippi, born August 11, 1930, he was the son of the late John H. and Laura Greenhaw Murray. He enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was honorably discharged achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a 1959 graduate of The University of Mississippi where he received his baccalaureate degree in Business Administration. He moved to Jackson in 1960 where he was a top salesman with Ashland Oil Inc., and retired following 35 years of service. He continued his career with Ideal Chemical Co. for an additional 20 years. After his retirement, Murt also enjoyed a part time job at Annandale Golf Course for over 15 years, in addition to serving as a member of the Zoning Board of Ridgeland MS for a number of years.
Mr. Murray was a man of deep faith and was active for over 40 years in the former North Park Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Ruling Elder before joining and attending Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Murt loved the outdoors and especially loved duck hunting with his friends in the Delta. He was the consummate handy man and servant to his family, community, and friends. He had the unique gift of always exhibiting gracious hospitality and concern for others. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: John Ed Murray, George Murray, William Murray, and Fred Murray; and his beloved in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Logan Wagner.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara “Bobby” Murray, of Ridgeland; daughters, Lee Anne Muncie (Mark), of Madison and Omega “Meg” Bickham, of Marietta, GA; his beloved granddaughter, Bailey Bickham; his twin sister, Julia Ann Martin, of Madison; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 5301 Old Canton Rd. in Jackson. Visitation will begin an hour prior to the service.
No flowers, please. The family requests memorials be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Sons of the King, or to French Camp Academy.
