Obituary for Judine Thomas McDonald
Judine Thomas McDonald, 95, died peacefully on August 17 with family present. The daughter of Robert and Laura Thomas, she was born on October 24, 1926, in Pelahatchie, MS. A graduate of Carr Central High School in Vicksburg, MS, she later earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree from Mississippi College. In 1946 she married John McDonald and served with him in pastorates in Baptist churches in Goodman, Monticello, Jackson, and Concord. She taught at Oak Forest Elementary School, where she loved her fourth-graders and formed lasting friendships with fellow teachers. In addition to her many responsibilities as a pastor's wife, she enjoyed membership in Kappa Delta Pi, an educational honorary, along with neighborhood garden clubs, and Heritage Luncheon Club. In retirement, she and John joined First Baptist Church Jackson, where they served in numerous capacities. After her adoring grandchildren dubbed her "Sweetie," many people called her by that most appropriate name. In 2015 she moved to Sunnybrook Estates in Madison, MS, where she enjoyed the fellowship of residents and the caring staff, who made living there truly home for her. The family thanks the attentive staff at Clinton Healthcare for their kind attention and loving care during her stay there. Judine was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother John Robert Thomas. Surviving her are son Tommy McDonald (Betsy), Hernando; daughter Judy McKeigney (Norton), Jackson; grandchildren Ben McDonald (Taylor), Brandon; Beth Ford (Jason), Hernando; Mac McKeigney, Atlanta, GA; John David McKeigney, Jackson; great-grandsons Hatley Ford and Ethan Ford, Hernando; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery in Jackson, MS, on Friday, August 19, at 2:00 PM, with Tom Washburn officiating. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 250, Jackson, MS 39205 or Longview Point Baptist Church, 1100 McIngvale Road, Hernando, MS 38632. Please designate memorials to the Lottie Moon Offering for international missions.
