Obituary for John Paul Stockwell
John Paul Stockwell, 82, passed away on June 19, 2022. He was born in Chattanooga, TN on November 22, 1939, and moved to Jackson, MS in 1941. Paul attended Jackson Public Schools and was a proud Mississippi State alumnus. In 1962, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Insurance and in 1968, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Paul spent most of his business career as a self-employed Certified Public Accountant. His accounting firm served numerous local and nationwide accounts for over forty-five years. Paul cherished the lifelong relationships he had with his clients.
Paul was also involved in many community activities in which he served as a board member. A few of those included: Jackson Jaycees, Mississippi Children’s Home, Youth Crisis Center of Jackson (Treasurer), First Christian Church (Deacon), Jackson Junior Achievement, Mississippi Tax Institute (Treasurer), MSCPA Central Chapter (President), MSCPA Statewide Chapter (Treasurer), Canton MS Rotary Club (President), Canton Academy School Board (President), Hinds Community College Development Foundation (Secretary-Treasurer), and Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame (Vice President). Paul adored his family, especially “his” Merry Ellen. Paul and Merry Ellen spent fifteen wonderful years together. They enjoyed Mississippi State sporting events, traveling, and spending time with their family.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Louise Stockwell. He leaves behind his wife Merry Ellen; his children Stacey (Case) Irwin and Jay (Cara) Stockwell, Fran (David) Meacham and Doyle Walton; his grandchildren Hunter, Harrison, and Hayes Adcock, Rachael Meacham, and Alex Meacham; two sisters Margaret (Mickey) McGuire, and Anne (Jesse) Snell-McDonald; two nephews Rob (Melanie) Snell and Steve (Kathy) Snell; one niece Allison (Jamie) Gillespie; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS. A memorial service for family and close friends will follow at 11:30 A.M at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the United Methodist Church in Edwards MS or Community Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA) in Jackson, MS.
