Obituary for John "Jim" Eff Miller, Jr.
John Eff 'Jim' Miller, Jr, age 67, of Jackson, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, December 25, at UMC Hospital, ending a hard-fought battle with cancer. Jim was born October 5, 1954, in Jackson, MS to John Eff Miller and Cora Jeanne (Whitehead) Miller. He is survived by his sons Camden Quin Miller and John Eff Miller, III; daughter Wesley Miller Brooker (Brandon); sister Tami Miller Dendy (Gary); and nephews John Miller Dendy (Karmen), Noal Cliett Dendy (Ranya Mitra), and Emmitt McCall Dendy (Rebeca).
Jim graduated from Chamberlain Hunt Academy in 1972 before going on to work at the family business, Miller Ace Hardware. Here he first learned the art of salesmanship, which he took to like a fish to water. Little did he know, this would be a skill which he would utilize long after the hardware business was sold in 2000. Throughout his life, Jim was an accomplished salesman. He sold everything from cars to houses, police calendars and more.
Jim was also a consummate tinkerer. Much of his time was spent working on cars, motorcycles, stereos and the like or crafting the harmonica microphones (harp mics) that brought his name notoriety among harmonica players across the globe.
When he wasn’t working or tinkering, he could be found enjoying rock, blues, and jazz music, spending time with friends and loved ones, or talking to anyone who would listen about any number of interesting and insightful topics, usually all at once.
Jim was a doting father, a cherished uncle, a loving son and brother, and a fast friend.
