John Edward Sumrall, Jr. Jackson
John Edward Sumrall, Jr., age 79 a long time resident of Jackson, Ms passed away on February 19, 2022 at the Ms Baptist Medical Center in Jackson following a brief illness. A Military funeral service will be held at the Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS on February 25, 2022 at 12:30 p.m.
Mr. Sumrall was born on June 11, 1942 to John and Louise Sumrall in Belzoni, Ms. He met the love of his life in high school, Beverly Schwarzauer, and they remained sweethearts until the end.
At an early age he had ambitions of flying and fulfilled that dream by proudly serving in the U S Army. After serving as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne he enrolled in flight school and flew fixed wing aircraft in Korea, and Chinook helicopters in Vietnam, receiving many awards. After returning from service he started a family and a business. As owner and chief executive officer of Capitol Medical Supply he was widely known in the hospital community and had just recently retired.
One of the most interesting times in his life was serving on the Board of Trustees many years at Woodland Hills Baptist Academy when all three children were students. He was a long time member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Von Brent Sumrall.
Survivors include His wife of 60 years, Beverly Sumrall of Jackson, daughters, Janet Sumrall of Crystal Springs and Missy Harris of Madison, sister, Abbie Hill, second daughter, Karlene Allen and sister in law, Trish Martin. He loved being grandfather to Lucy Kay Sumrall (Abram), Chloe Sumrall and Parker Harris who affectionately called him Dude, and great grandfather to Maggie and Wyatt Jones.
