Obituary for John David Calhoun
John David Calhoun, age 69, of Hinds County, Mississippi, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 23, 2022. He was born and grew up in Forest, MS where he was an excellent athlete- playing baseball and football for the Forest Bearcats. During that time, the football team won the 1969 Little Dixie Conference Championship. He also sang in the Forest Baptist Church youth choir. He later attended Mississippi State where he played football and was an AP/UP SEC Defensive Player of the Week in 1972.
John David was an entrepreneur owning several businesses as well as being an ordained minister. He was a gifted singer, songwriter, and artist who was self taught and could develop any talent he set his mind to. John David was also an outspoken champion of individual liberty in obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ.
John David was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Jeri Calhoun of Forest. He is survived by his wife Tena Pace Calhoun, three daughters: Shea (Matthew) Moses of Flora, MS; Kris (Cameron) Honey of Fayetteville, AR; Pacey (Matt) Harris of Helena, AL; seven grandchildren: Daphnee and Camille Honey, Pace and Mae Moses, and Lilla, Paul David, and Ruby Harris. He also is survived by 3 siblings: Jackie (Gail) Calhoun of Forest, MS; Wanda Carter of Boynton Beach, FL; and Laurie McLaughlin of Gainesville, FL as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His other survivor is his “man’s best friend” Boss Applesauce who is mourning his master’s loss immensely.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sebrell Funeral Home. Burial services and visitation will be private for family and close friends.
