Obituary for John Cate Owen
John Cate Owen died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 28, 2021 in Madison. He was 57.
A native and lifelong resident of the Jackson, he was born December 2, 1963, the son of the late John William Owen and the late Billie “Kitty” Cate Owen.
John was a graduate of Belhaven University where he received his baccalaureate degree in psychology. He began a long, dedicated career in the counseling field in 1994 when he opened his business, Recovery Consultations, which he operated until his death. John was a true champion helping those struggling with addiction and other life difficulties on a day-to-day basis. His commitment to the recovery community positively impacted countless lives through his compassionate and skilled care. John was a kind, gentle man with a loving spirit. He loved his family deeply and had a huge heart. He was honored in 2018 with the Champion in Recovery Award presented annually at the Holiday Networking Luncheon and Toy Drive at Broadmoor Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his niece, Sandra Puckett.
He was a loving and devoted father to his beloved son, Storm Owen, who survives him. He also leaves behind his sisters, Tamara Puckett, of Jackson; Sherry Humphrey (Bob), of Huntsville, AL; brother, Ricky Thaggard, of Madden, MS; nephews, John Dean Puckett, Will Humphrey, and Trace Thaggard; nieces, Dakota Killingsworth and Regan Humphrey; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A private graveside service will be held at Montgomery Cemetery in Madison where John will be laid to rest beside his father.
