John’s heritage in the US begins with a French aristocrat who came to America to assist Lafayette and the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. John was born in Gulfport, Mississippi on February 22nd to John and Guida (Thomas) Lloyd. He was raised in Long Beach, Mississippi, graduating from Long Beach High School in 1963 and participating in Navy ROTC.

He went on to attended the University of Mississippi where he became a die-hard Rebels Fan that continued throughout his adult life. He was an avid follower of all Ole Miss Sports. (Hotty-Toddy).

In 1967, his education was interrupted by Uncle Sam for a trip to Southeast Asia, courtesy of the US Navy. John served on the Aircraft Carrier, USS Ticonderoga, for two years, and served in the Civil Air Patrol for a number of years later. After his tour in Vietnam, he returned to finish his degree at Ole Miss,
graduating in 1969 with a BBA in Advertising. After graduation, he moved to Jackson and found employment with L. M. Berry Company, a national advertising agency, as a Regional Sales Promotions Manager for seven years. During this time, he discovered his passion for building and flying radio controlled aircraft. In 1977, he moved to Memphis to take a position as National Sales Manager for a hotel refurbishing company affiliated with Holiday Inn’s Innkeeper Supply division and remained there for three years. In 1978, while supervising several jobs for InnKeeper’s Supply in California and working out of their Hollywood office, John met Cheryl Fricke. They married in November of ‘79. They celebrated their 38th anniversary last fall.

After meeting and marrying Cheryl and moving back to Jackson, John became involved with beginnings of the micro-computer industry. He was employed by the Tandy Corporation as manager of the first Radio Shack Computer Centers in Jackson, MS. After five years with Tandy Corp., he left to start his own computer software development and consulting company, Micro Concepts, which he owned and managed until 2003.

At that point, he was given the opportunity to take the position as Director of Information Technologies at Park Management, a large realty estate development firm located in Jackson. After eleven years in this position, he was forced to retire due to his failing health in January 2016.

During this time John rediscovered his love for Radio Control Airplanes. He spent many hours building and flying both prop driven airplanes as well as turbine driven jet aircraft. He served as President of the Mid-Mississippi Radio Control Club. He was instrumental in establishing the RC Flying Site in Byram, Mississippi.

John was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and their son Christopher Lloyd, John’s daughter, Lindsay Donaghe and son-in-law Terry and grandson Ayvnn Donaghe, John’s brother, Norman Lloyd and sister-in-law Katherine.
