Obituary for Joe Alden Rees
Joe fought the good fight with supernatural faith, courage and grace, he got his crown of glory on January 23, 2017. Joe was born on March 26, 1930 in Jackson, MS to Fred O. Rees and Josie Rankin. He accepted Christ at an early age and earnestly pursued a relationship with his Heavenly Father. Joe was a founding and devoted member of Pocahontas Baptist Church. Joe was a 1949 graduate of Clinton High School and attended Hinds Junior College. While at Hinds he became a member of the greatest Generation by serving in the Army 31st Division for two years. After the service he worked for United Gas Pipeline, retiring in 1978 after 25 years. He worked for Mississippi College School of Law retiring in 1995. Joe was preceded in death by his mother and father and sister Mayme Rees Lukey, wives Gladys Mayfield Rees and Bobbie Nell Rees. He is survived by his sisters Ann Rees Ferrell (Cecil) of Ridgeland and Lynn Rees Gunter (Tom) of Clinton and a brother Fred F. Rees (Edith) of Clinton, nephews Mike King (Cindy), Bruce King (Lisa), Bobby Franciskato (DeDe) and Josh Rees (Jennifer) and step-daughters Delores Gray (Walt) of Brandon and Vickie Pielak (Stan) of Oxford. Visitation will be held at Pocahontas Baptist Church, 4200 Kickapoo Rd, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am and a celebration of life will be 11:00 am. Burial at Lakewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pocahontas Baptist Church.
