Obituary for Jo Clapper
BETTY JO GREGG CLAPPER

Jo Clapper died on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 77.

A native of Osceola, Arkansas, she was born March 18, 1943, the daughter of the late Felix and Ellie Ree Nash Gregg. Jo was raised in Starkville, Mississippi where she graduated Starkville High School. She received her undergraduate degree from her beloved Mississippi State University and her graduate degree from Mississippi College.

Mrs. Clapper was a much loved and admired 2nd grade teacher and taught in the Madison County School System for many years. She was a charter teacher at Madison Station Elementary School and was a former Madison County “Teacher of The Year.” She retired her teaching career in 2001 from the Mississippi School for the Blind. Over the years, Jo had stayed in touch with numerous students whose lives were affected by her devotion and care.

Jo had her first date with the love of her life, George, at a Mississippi State Bulldog basketball game almost 60 years ago. Together they enjoyed raising their family, attending many MSU athletic events (especially basketball) and traveling throughout some 49 States and several countries. Her family came first. She was a devoted, fierce supporter of her children and grandchildren and was involved in many aspects of their lives. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her a sister, Bobbie Ann Gregg, and her brother, Billy Jack Gregg.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, George Clapper, of Ridgeland; daughter, Ginger Clapper Langford, of Brandon; sons, Lee Clapper (Deedra), of Madison, and Geep Clapper (Tonia), of Nolansville, TN; grandchildren: Joshua Langford, Joel Langford, Daniel Clapper, Ashlee Clapper, and Andrew Clapper; sister, Judy Gregg, of Memphis; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland, with Rev. Tom Washburn officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Salvation Army.
