A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Jackson with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. Jo Anne, a native of Greenwood, MS, was the daughter of Jake and Mary Bess Box. She graduated from Greenwood High School and Mississippi Delta Junior College’s nursing program. She was a ballerina and a flight attendant before becoming a well-loved nurse at Greenwood-Leflore Hospital. In 1976, Jo Anne married the love of her life, GeorgeVining, and they lived in Greenwood and Columbus, MS before eventually settling in Jackson, MS. She was an active member of the Christian Church everywhere she lived. Jo Anne, along with her family, was a long-time member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Jackson, MS. She was active in the church in many capacities, including the choir, where she joyfully and faithfully sang each week with her daughter, granddaughters and great-granddaughter. Jo Anne was an avid Bridge player, and was a member of various Bridge and Garden Clubs and Ladies Luncheon groups. Most important to Jo Anne was her family. She always attended every play, party and sporting event for her grandchildren, even volunteering weekly at Christ Covenant School, where her great-granddaughter attended school. She loved and supported her family through thick and thin and was always the first to help those in need, most recently volunteering for Southern Christian Services. “Granny”, as she was known, will be missed greatly by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, James “Sonny” and Anne Box, as well as numerous, well-loved aunts, uncles and cousins. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of nearly 41 years, George Vining, her children: Jana (Randy) Truitt of Jackson, Bill and Mort Jordan of Greenwood, and Jim (Robin) Jordan of Greenville, Step-children David Vining and Diane (Garrison) Myers of Frisco, TX, grandchildren: Holli Jordan of Canton, Katie (Jimmy) Manning of Canton, Matt (Avery) Truitt of Jackson, Paul Jordan of Greenwood, Rick Jordan of Tupelo, Jake (Emily) Jordan of Starkville, Avery and Parker Martin of Memphis, TN, Johnathan Jordan of California, and great-grandchildren, Georgia Jordan of Canton, Rhodes Truitt of Jackson, and Damean and Ethan Jordan of California. She is also survived by her half-sister, Glynda (Larry) Brown of Georgia and numerous step-grandchildren and cousins. Services for Jo Anne will be held on January 21, 2017 at 3 o’clock in the afternoon at First Christian Church, Jackson (645 Briarwood Drive, Jackson MS), with visitation at 1 o’clock in the afternoon, prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Southern Christian Services for Children and Youth (860 E River Place, Jackson, MS 39202) or First Christian Church, Jackson.
