Obituary for Jimmie Shearron Asbill
Jimmie Shearron Asbill was born in Tipton, Oklahoma, in May 1934 to Lois Gilliland and Smith Langford Asbill, Sr. He passed away peacefully at his home in Madison, Mississippi, on January 14, 2022.
Shortly after his birth, Jimmie’s family moved to Electra, Texas, where they lived until he was in the fifth grade. They, then, moved to Borger, Texas, where his father got a job working in the oil fields. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to an oil lease near Stinnett, Texas. Upon graduation from Stinnett High School in 1952, he enrolled at Texas Tech University in the School of Petroleum Engineering. After his sophomore year, he married his childhood sweetheart, Marilyn Campbell, who he began dating when they were both fourteen years old. He received a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering in 1956. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Army at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey until 1958. While living in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, Jimmie and Marilyn welcomed their first child, Kyle.
In 1958, Jimmie was hired by Cities Service Oil Company and moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, following training in Odessa and Pampa, Texas. In 1962, Jimmie and Marilyn had a daughter, Kim, and in 1967, they welcomed their third child, Darin. In 1969, Jimmie and Marilyn were transferred to Jackson, Mississippi, where he continued to work for Cities Service, which later became OXY USA, Inc. He retired from OXY in 1989 and decided to begin a second career as an Environmental Engineer with the State of Mississippi’s Department of Environmental Quality, where he worked for over 20 years. Jimmie was a Professional Engineer in Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
Anyone that knew Jimmie knew how much he loved God, his wife, his family, and his friends. Because of the example of his wife, Marilyn, he became a Christian and continued a life of service to God for the rest of his life. He never knew a stranger; in fact, his goal was to leave every conversation with a smile on the other person’s face.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, the love of his life; his parents, Lois Gilliland and Smith Langford Asbill, Sr.; and his brother, Smith “Smitty” Langford Asbill, Jr., M.D., and sister-in-law, Marjorie Asbill.
He is survived by his children Kyle (Deborah) Asbill of Madison, Mississippi; Kim (Randy) Hensarling of Denison, Texas; and Darin (Anne Marie) Asbill of Lewisville, North Carolina. He is also survived by his grandchildren Justin, Jayson, Juliana, and James Asbill of Mississippi; Keith, Katie, and Colton Hensarling of Texas; and David and Ruth Anne Asbill of North Carolina. He is also survived by one great-grandchild, Isaac Hensarling, of Texas.
A memorial service is pending at this time. To celebrate Jimmie’s life, be like him and make it your goal to reach out to a stranger with the goal of making them smile and making their day better because of a few kind words. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to honor Jimmie by making a contribution to the mission, charity, or cause of your choice.
