Obituary for Jerry Wayne Gibbons
Jerry Wayne Gibbons, 67, died Monday, March 19, 2018 at home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Jerry Wayne was born on September 25, 1950, the son of J.C. Gibbons and Merle Bailey. He graduated from Clinton High School, where he proudly played football. He continued his education at Hinds Community College. A veteran, Jerry Wayne served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. After returning home, he began working at Jitney Jungle prior to accepting a position at Hinds Community College until he retired. Jerry Wayne was an avid hunter especially squirrels, rabbit and deer. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and cheering on Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He was a member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church. Along with his father, Jerry Wayne is preceded in death by his wife on March 9, 2018, Mary Virginia “Gina” Gibbons. Survivors include his mother, Merle Bailey of Raymond; aunt, Mary Bankston of Hinds County; cousins, Brenda Bailey of Hinds County; Sid Graves of Brandon; sister-in-law, Betty Wilson Lyle (John) of Ridgeland and close friends Robert Warren of Pelahatchie and Dennis and Tracy Ainsworth of Raymond.
