Jeremiah Ridley Wesson, surrounded by his loving family, passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2024. Jeremy was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and uncle. Jeremy touched and impacted the lives of many through his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and intelligence.
Jeremy was born on August 7, 1974, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to parents Philip Wesson and Deborah Ridley Staples. His childhood was marked by his love of sports and outdoor activities, as well as his passion for the University of Tennessee athletics.
Jeremy graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Sociology. In 2000, Jeremy met his future wife, Laura Suzanne Stroble, while they were both working in Nashville. Jeremy and Laura were married in Nashville on June 16, 2002.
On April 29, 2008, Jeremy and Laura welcomed their first daughter, Kate Ridley Wesson. On February 24, 2014, Jeremy, Laura, and Kate were thrilled to welcome the newest member of their family, Ellie Reese Yun Wesson. Jeremy and his family are members of Christ United Jackson.
Jeremy derived great joy from his family. He admired the strength and courage of his wife Laura. Many of Jeremy’s happiest times were spent with his daughters Kate and Ellie: cooking together, watching Marvel and Star Wars movies, building Legos, riding bikes, throwing the frisbee, and otherwise enjoying the outdoors together. Jeremy was his authentic self, comfortable in his own skin, and he loved that about Laura, Kate, and Ellie as well.
Jeremy enjoyed rewarding friendships with many, including with his “Skalliewags” and others in the local mountain biking and frisbee golf communities. It was heartwarming to see how Jeremy’s friends were there for him and so good to him during his illness.
Jeremy had a tremendous work ethic and drive. He was intellectually curious and an avid reader. Jeremy derived great pleasure from collaborating with and leading his work colleagues. Later in life, Jeremy rediscovered his passion for drawing, and was the author and illustrator of a book titled Purposeful Connections, A Red Thread Story.
Jeremy began his career at Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company in 2005 as an Underwriting Consultant, and was named Senior Vice President, Policy Administration in 2019. He earned the professional designations of Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI); Fellow, Academy of LIfe Underwriting (FALU), and was accredited by the American College with his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation. Jeremy was a former President of the Southeastern Home Office Underwriters Association (SEHOUA).
Jeremy is survived by his wife Laura, his daughters Kate and Ellie, his mother Deborah Staples, his father Philip Wesson (Karen), his siblings Maggie Dawson (Scott), Mary Gray (Ian), his nieces Kirra Dawson and Sabra Dawson, and his grandmother Ruth Janelle Wesson. Jeremy is preceded in death by his grandfathers James R. Wesson and Edward R. Ridley, his grandmother Carlene Ridley, and his stepfather David L. Staples.
Jeremy enjoyed and appreciated a special relationship with his in-laws, Joey and Pam Stroble. He looked forward to family gatherings with them and his brother-in-law Jay Stroble and his wife Anna, and their girls Ansley, Emma Kate, and Charlotte, where many good memories were made.
Laura and the family would like to thank all of those who took such good care of Jeremy, including Dr. Ruth Fredericks and staff, Dr. John Cross, Mississippi Home Health and Accentcare, and everyone at Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company. In addition, the family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support of too many to name individually. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to: Tri-County Mountain Biking Association, 521 Giles Lane, Madison, MS, 39110.
