Obituary for Jean Pemble DeLashmet
Jean Pemble DeLashmet died June 20, 2016 at home surrounded by her family after a battle with lung cancer.
Jean Pemble DeLashmet was born in Shelby Mississippi on October 3, 1928. Her parents were Wilbur and Pauline (Herrington) Pemble. Raised in the Delta she graduated from the local high school and went immediately to Ole Miss for college. There she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority where she was later president for 2 years. She was voted May Queen, was elected a campus favorite and was a member of several clubs. She received her degree in Business. She met her future husband, Bart DeLashmet at Ole Miss and was later married.
Divorced in the 70’s she moved back to Mississippi and settled in Jackson. She began working in banking for Trustmark and rose to the office of vice president, later moving to Great Southern National Bank and Omni Bank. When she left banking she went to Panzone and Assoc. where she ran the front office until retiring. She was known for her willingness to help, customer service and professionalism.
Her most significant and wonderful accomplishment was raising her family. Divorcing after 20 years she moved her sons to Jackson to be close to family. At that time she relocated, returned to the workforce and raised two sons. She never slowed down, was an excellent provider and wonderful mother and was loved by family, friends and coworkers. Her house was the favorite B&B for college football weekends or escape from school. Her cooking and hospitality was legendary among her sons’ friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Wilbur and Pauline Pemble.
She is survived by her sons G. Bart DeLashmet (Debby) of Jackson, and W. Pemble DeLashmet (Mignon) of Mobile, AL., Sister Paula Parker(Ed Tate) of Franklin, TN, 6 grandchildren and 3 nieces and nephews.
Services will be at Sebrell Funeral Home in Jackson on June 27th with visitation at 10-11 am and service at 11am following in the chapel at the funeral home.
The family wants to thank Donett and Ramona Baldwin for their care, Dr. Tammy Young and her staff for their kind support and treatment. Please make any donations to Hospice Ministries or you favorite charity.
