Obituary for Jean Arthur Kuyrkendall
Jean A Kuyrkendall, 85, fell asleep in his Master’s arms Friday, April, 27, 2018 while at home in Madison, MS surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in McComb, MS on February 19, 1933 to Dudley Frith and Ina Dorris Kuyrkendall.
Jean enlisted in the US Air Force following his high school graduation and served 4 years as an Airman 1st Class. After serving his country, he had a long career in the field of accounting. His integrity, knowledge and work ethic were valued throughout his career, which lasted until the age of 84.
He enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, tennis and golf. His enjoyment of sports continued as he and his wife were avid supporters of MS State University athletics.
Jean was a faithful member and ordained deacon of First Baptist Church Madison. He was an active member in his Christians in Action Sunday School class and Voices of Joy Senior choir. He volunteered at the VA Hospital where he would share the love of Christ with patients. Jean also spent many hours in the halls of Madison County Schools as a prayer-walker.
He is survived by his lifelong sweetheart, his wife of 61 years, Betty F. Kuyrkendall; son Steve (Lisa) Kuyrkendall of Madison, MS; daughter Vicki (Mark) Burton of Marion, NC. “Pop” was dearly loved by his grandchildren: Luke (Kelsea) Burton of Greenville, SC; Catherine Burton of Chapel Hill, NC; Joshua Kuyrkendall of Athens, GA; Eric Burton of Durham, NC; and Benjamin Kuyrkendall of Starkville, MS; and great-granddaughter Lyla Burton of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by a sister, Donteal (Ance) Grubbs of Magee, MS and a brother, Carl (Sue) Kuyrkendall of McComb, MS. The visitation and service will be held at First Baptist Church Madison. Visitation will be Monday, April 30, 2018, 5:00 pm-7:00 pm and Tuesday, May 1, 2018, beginning at 12:00 pm with the service immediately following at 1:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Navilla Baptist Church in McComb, MS at 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church Madison, 2100 Main St, Madison, MS 39110.
