Obituary for Jasper M. (Sonny) Pitts
Jasper M. (Sonny) Pitts, 80, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Sebrell Funeral Home with burial following in Flora City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Pitts was born on October 5, 1937, in Attala County, the son of the late Walter and Viola Pitts. He worked for many years as a mechanic where he was affectionately known as “hammer man” Mr. Pitts retired as truck driver for Great Southern. He was an avid fisherman and cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Pitts enjoyed working puzzles. He was a Deacon at the Church of God of Prophecy.
He will most be remembered as a loving husband, a beloved father, a cherished grandfather, great grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Pitts; daughter, Christy Cowart, Mary Brown, and Janice Kuyrkendall all of Flora. He is also survived by his brothers, Bobby Pitts of Florence; Walter Pitts, Sr., of Kiln; sister, Faye Bruce of Florence ; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and numerouss nieces and nephews.
