Obituary for James Wayne Cockrell
James Wayne Cockrell, 50, died Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2018 at Lakeside Presbyterian Church with burial following in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Lakeside Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Cockrell was born on April 2, 1968, in Jackson, the son of the late James Isom Cockrell and Ann Dean Cockrell. A dedicated law enforcement officer, Mr. Cockrell worked for 28 years in the profession he loved. Mr. Cockrell was currently at Lieutenant with the Reservoir Police Department where he had served for the last 22 ½ years.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved to deer hunt. He will be most remembered as a loving husband, a beloved father and a cherished brother, and loved being a papaw to Mari Carter.
Survivors include his loving wife, Suzanne Cockrell of Jackson; son, Christopher Wayne Cockrell of Clinton; step-children, Chase Stevens, Carlie Johnson (Tyler) both of Inverness, MS; and Ryan Fowler of Brandon; brother, Travis Newton Cockrell and his daughter, Anna Tatum Cockrell both of Jackson.
