Obituary for James Robert Black, III
James Robert Black, III, 76, passed away Monday, November 16, 2020 at the MS State Veterans Home in Jackson, MS. “Jim” was born July 16th, 1944 to the late James and Annie Black in Natchez, MS. He attended Louisiana State University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. After graduating he joined U.S. Army and served in Germany. Later, Jim went on to receive MBA and J.D. degrees from Mississippi College before opening his own successful CPA firm of James R. Black, III & Associates in 1978.
In 1969, Jim met Glenda Kay Hogue and they married soon thereafter in the August of 1970. They went on to have three children: James R. Black, IV, Thomas Jason Black, and Katrina Anne Black. Throughout the years Jim was a very devoted family man and loving husband, and despite the time it took to run his own business, he always found time and prioritized family.
Jim always had a strong but quiet faith throughout his life. It was common to find him reading the bible every morning before breakfast, and he was a founding member of the St. Peter’s by the Lake Episcopal Church in Brandon. He helped see the church grow from a group of people meeting at small borrowed facility on Sundays in to the established beautiful house of worship that it is today.
In addition to Jim’s time with his family and the church he also devoted significant time to community service with the Lion’s Club and with the Boy Scouts.
James is survived by his wife of 50 years, Glenda Kay Black; his children James Robert Black, IV, Thomas Jason Black; his daughter Katrina Anne Barnes; daughter-in-law Aimie (Cryer) Black, son-in-law Richard Barnes, his grandchildren Ella Kathryn Black and Ethan Thomas Black; and his sisters Margaret Ann (Black) House and Lillian (Black) Lane; and brother-in-law Harold House. James was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert Black Jr and Annie Elizabeth (Vinson) Black.
A memorial service will be celebrated at St. Peter’s by The Lake Episcopal Church on Monday, November 23, 2020. For the health and safety of the community during the COVID19 pandemic the family encourages participation online at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZQTt2P-ZhtbkYjLnijxt6A; https://www.facebook.com/stpetersbythelake; or at https://boxcast.tv/embed-app.html#zykeajdjmmh0j4axd1px?showTitle=1&showDescription=1&showHighlights=1&showRelated=1&defaultVideo=next&market=house-of-worship&showCountdown=1&showDocuments=1&showIndex=1&showDonations=0&layout=playlist-to-right
