Obituary for James Earl Powell
James Earl Powell, 83, of Crystal Springs went to be with the Lord November 19 at Hardy Wilson Medical Center in Hazlehurst. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Hopewell Baptist Church with burial following in Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm Monday, November 21, 2016 and from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016. All visitations will be held at the church.
Mr. Powell was born on May 12, 1933, in Monticello. He attended Georgetown and Monticello schools. He was a member and Deacon of Hopewell Baptist Church.
He was a very special husband, father and friend to everyone.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his father, Jackson Powell and mother, Minnie Thames Powell, a son, Richard Powell; brothers, Luther Powell, Julius Powell, Billy Powell, Howard Powell and Rufus Powell. He is also preceded in death by sisters, Norman Ard, Mary Buckley, Ouida Morris and Nera Buckley.
Survivors include: his wife, Peggy Powell; daughters, Theresa Taylor (Frank); Cindy Lucus (David); Minnie Hahn (Mark); 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
